John Michael Cutean, age 82, peacefully passed away on May 24, 2024 with his loving family by his side. John is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Cutean and Christy (Brian) Sherer; grandchildren, Grace Cutean and Ian Sherer; sister, Sally Schwandt; numerous nieces and nephews and friends. John will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Preceded in death by his parents, George and Theodora; sisters, Anna and Mary; infant son, Michael.
After graduating high school, John enlisted and proudly served in the United States Air Force. John had a passion to teach kids the game of basketball. He taught his girls to play at a very young age and continued to coach them through the years. John coached at Bishop Noll Institute and Calumet High School.
John was a loving father and grandfather. His family was the joy of his life.
John had a fun-loving spirit. There was never a place he would go where he did not know someone or make a new friend.
Faith was a huge part of John’s life. He was a member of Descent of the Holy Ghost in Merrillville. He was extremely involved in the church. John loved cooking at the hall, helping at the altar, helping the priests or anything else he could be a part of.
Friends may meet with family on Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 3-7 pm at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft Street, Merrillville, IN. Trisagion Service at 6 PM. Interment at Calumet Park Cemetery. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 10AM directly at Descent of the Holy Ghost, 750 W 61st Ave, Merrillville

I am Johnny’s first cousin. I haven’t seen him for years and we lost touch quite awhile ago. I’m sorry that we did. He was 6 years older. He taught me and my brother how to play Uno. Visits to the family were so much fun. I kept in touch when he joined the Air Force. I’m so sorry for your loss. May he rest in eternal
peace and may the Lord console your family in your grief.
