Alonzo Solis, 93, of Gary, Indiana passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. He was born on May 31, 1931 in Concepcion, Texas to Eduardo and Virginia Abrego Soliz. He married his wife Rosa on May 02, 1968, celebrating 55 years of marriage.
Alonzo was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud Korean War Veteran. From the beginning, Alonzo exhuberated in anything he put his mind to. He was active in various sports. He joined the Air Force in 1950, where he served in the Korean War. Fulfilling his duties in the war, he then worked at Inland Steel for 37 years. His hobbies included softball, bowling, holding various office positions for the American Legion, post #508, but most importantly spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Alonzo is preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Solis, his parents Eduardo (Virginia) Soliz, two brothers, and five sisters.
Alonzo is survived by one son Daniel (Denise) Solis, four daughters Sandra (Wi-oja-ja) Gomez, Donna (William) Mendoza, Dianna (Mark) Noel, and Rosie (Michael) Otano and twenty one grandchildren: Tatiana (George), Gabe (Justyna), Jackie, Patricia (Josey), Alexia (Mario), Serena, Tori (Dan), Drew, Celeste, Matthew, Daniel Jr., Bishop, Kimimela, Mykelle, White Snow, Lionheart, Benjamin, Azalea, Gabrielle, Zuriel, and Michael; eleven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation services will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, from 3 pm to 8 pm.On Saturday, June 15, 2024, there will be a viewing from 9-10 am with a funeral service to follow at 10am. All services will be held at Christian Revival Center, 805 W 57th Ave, Merrillville, IN 46410. Pastor Michael Otano officiating. Burial to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery.
