“She was the world’s greatest mom”

Betty Jean Oros, of Hobart, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the age of 89.  She was born Harold and Viola Daniels in Gary, IN. Betty owned and operated Mr. Johnny’s Restaurant and was the owner of Cast Away Boat Harbor on Fontana Lake in North Carolina.  Betty loved to visit Resale Shops with her daughter, daughter in-law, and friend Lucille. She loved to find treasures. Afterwards, they would always go to lunch, of course.

Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She was the world’s best mom. Her red hair was a reflection of her fun and feisty personality. We often referred to her as Betty Boop. She was loved by all.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 72 years: John, and 2 dear sons: John and Danny Joe.

She is survived by her son: Michael (Lilly) Oros, and daughter: Irma Jean (late Edward) Sell; treasured grandchildren: Christopher and John Oros, and Jessica Sitton; 8 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; and her best buddy, Minnie Mouse the dog.

Friends and family are invited to visit on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 10 AM until the time of service at 1:00 at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel (7535 Taft Street, Merrillville). Interment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery.  For additional information, call 219-736-5840.
