Janice Thornberry (nee Cook) age 69, of Valparaiso, passed away Saturday Nov 9, 2024 with her family by her side.
Janice was a 1973 graduate of Calumet High School and in 1987 graduated from Indiana University Northwest Nursing School. Jan was a dedicated and loving mother to her three daughters, and to her husband Chris for over 34 years.
She is preceded in death by her father William Cook; beloved aunt and uncle Molly Jane Blaine and James Preston Blaine, several other aunts and uncles as well.
Jan is survived by her loving husband Chris Thornberry; 3 cherished daughters Jodi (William Buvala) Fulton, Andrea Bruno (Matthew Vermillion), Erica (Ryan) Raisor; three adored grandchildren, Mollie Fulton, Ruby and Juniper Vermillion; her beloved mother Myrtle (Cookie) Cook; her one and only sister Tammy (Manuel) Guerrero; several loving sister and brother in laws, and an abundance of nieces, nephews that she cherished dearly.
Jan was a loving and devoted pediatric nurse who treated every patient as if they were her own child. Her coworkers became her extended family. She loved entertaining and spending time with her friends and family. Always there to lend a helping hand, a wealth of knowledge, listening ear, a few hard truths, and a shoulder to cry on. Her smile, laughter, and joking nature could light up the whole room and were sure to ease your hardest of days. Her giving nature, kind heart, and strength were some of her best attributes. Traveling and camping with her devoted husband, beloved dogs, family and friends were her favorite things to do, and she always looked forward to the next adventure. Jan will be forever remembered and dearly missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Jan’s memory may be made to the family.
Memorial Service will be held Friday, November 15, 2024 from to 2pm-6pm at the Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, (Hobart – Portage) 370 North Country Line Road, Portage, IN 46368. Jan/ one of a Kind, when I came to Peds Dept she Trained me by Having do a Savager Hunt in the Office it was Wild ,from the days on We developed a bond,I met Joy and We were the 3 Js”” jan joy,and Jeanette,We Worked with Dr Slayton a Great Pediatrician ,along with Dr Parikh and a group of other great ladies. You never meet anyone by Mistake, Our Paths Crossed for a Reason, each one of these Ladies Inpacted my life” Although they may be Absent from the Body ” Jan will live on Thru her Daughters, And Grandchildren/ Chris iam sure you she left you with Lots of good Memories too 😉 and let’s not Forget Cookie ” Everyone needs a cookie to keep them on their Toes luv you well Tammy 💙 ❤ you have a lot of memories too.
