Daniel W. Alvarez, of Monticello, IN, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 6, 2025, at the age of 61.
Danny was a long-time resident of the region, graduating from Andrean High School and going on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree and then his MBA in marketing, both from Indiana University. To say that Dan liked to keep busy is an understatement, as he was a licensed insurance agent, a mortgage broker, a teacher, and spent time as a charter fisherman. He traveled extensively in his youth and found peace in the outdoors – not only fishing, but also hunting and golfing whenever he could.
He created and founded Fruitshine Wine (Monticello, IN), pairing age-old recipes and techniques with new flavors to share.
Danny was quick to lend a hand and his brilliant mind. He lived to help and make the lives of those around him richer. He was a member of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, an influential voice in his community, a member of Libanus Masonic Lodge 154 in Monticello, an organ donor, and brought joy to all who were blessed to have known him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Daniel; and three sisters: Deborah, Suzanne, and Laurie. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved mother, Nancy Alvarez; his loving wife, Tami Alvarez; brothers, Rick Andersen and Terence G. Trapane; extended family: Ken (Quinn), Kyle, Alice, and Kelly; 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild; Kono and Kali, who will dearly miss Dan’s pets and cuddles; and countless family and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, January 13, 2025, from 3 – 7 PM with McKinley Masonic lodge 712 service at 6:30 PM.
Additional visitation Tuesday, January 14, 2025, from 10 AM until time of chapel service at Noon. All services are Central Standard time at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel (7535 Taft Street, Merrillville, Indiana). Interment Calumet Park Cemetery. For information, call 219-736-5840.
