In Loving Memory of Esequiel Torres

June 11, 1930 – January 12, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Esequiel Torres, who peacefully left this world on January 12, 2025, at the age of 94, surrounded by his beloved family. Born in El Rancho de la Cruz de San Vicente, Michoacán, Mexico, Esequiel’s life was a testament to hard work, unwavering faith, and unconditional love for those he held dear.

Esequiel immigrated to the United States with a dream of building a better life for his family. He worked as a dedicated welder at EJ & E Railway for 22 years, providing for his loved ones with pride and perseverance. One of his proudest moments came on February 13, 1998 when he became a U.S. citizen.

Esequiel was a man of many passions. He found peace in the great outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, or riding his bike through his neighborhood. His hands were never idle — he was often working on cars or tending a garden filled with fresh vegetables for his family. He also cherished time at the casino with his beloved wife. Above all, Esequiel’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, whose love and laughter were the heart of his life.

He was a devout Catholic and often an usher at his church, always serving his community with humility and grace. Respected and loved by all who knew him, Esequiel leaves behind a legacy of faith, family unity, and kindness that will live on for generations.

Esequiel is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Zenaida Torres, and their children: Jose Luis (Michelle) Torres, Antonia (Francisco) Alvarez, Jose Angel Torres, Esequiel (Martha) Torres Jr., Leelo (Jennifer) Torres, Elvira Torres, and Federico (Yolanda) Torres. He was a proud grandfather to 19 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 17 great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish his stories, wisdom, and boundless love.

He is reunited in Heaven with his beloved son, Roberto Torres, and his parents, Angel Torres and Antonia Anguiano. Though his family mourns his loss, they find peace knowing he is at rest, embraced by those who went before him.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 4-8 PM at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel (370 N. County Line Rd, Hobart, IN 46342). A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 11 AM at St. Francis Xavier Church (2447 Putnam St, Lake Station, IN 46405), followed by burial at Blake Cemetery (2711 Blake Rd, Portage, IN 46368).

Esequiel’s legacy is the love he shared, the family he built, and the faith he carried throughout his life. He taught those around him the importance of hard work, humility, and above all, love. His memory will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

Rest in peace, Esequiel. Your life was a gift, and your love will carry us forward.
