Alfonso Salinas was born December 28, 1940 in Laredo, Texas. He departed to Heaven peacefully at his home on March 30, 2025.
“Al” was born to Hilaria Salinas. Raised by a single mom with no other siblings, no one who met Al forgot his infectious humor and passion for helping others. He is survived by his 7 children, Guadalupe (Joseph ), Alfonso Salinas Jr (Vanna), Esther (Robert), Salvador (Priscilla), Alex, Danny and Sandra (William); Grandchildren, Emilio, Michael, Jason, Krystal, Alfonso III, Lisa, Louis, Angie, Sal Jr, Sylvia, Raquel, Desiree, Brandy, Billy, Dairy; in addition to his great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was known as “Pop” to his children. Retired twice, he worked at Inland Steel for 30 years in addition to the Lake County Department of Weights and Measures as an inspector for 25 more years. Al was a devoted father who loved to attend church, watch sports (Chicago Bears), politics and his family. He often called each one of his grandkids his “favorite”. He was known for his jokes, always spreading love to others and often saying, “I leave you in peace, I hope to find you in peace”. He often participated in politics, having last served as precinct committee man for Merrillville and various Lake County Election Board committees. He was a spiritual man, as he often attended church at Christian Revival Center and Family Christian Center. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. Rest in heaven, until we meet again for there is no goodbye when you know Jesus.
A wake is scheduled for April 3, 2025 from 4pm-8pm at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel 7535 W Taft St Merrillville, IN 46410. Funeral is scheduled for April 4, 2025 starting at 11am at Christian Revival Center 805 W 57th avenue Merrillville, IN 46410 with a burial to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery 2305 W 73rd avenue Merrillville, IN 46410. A reception to follow at Christian Revival Center 805 W 57th avenue Merrillville, IN 46410. Pastor Michael Otano will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Al’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Calumet Park Funeral Chapel 7535 W Taft St Merrillville, IN 46410. The family would like to thank everyone for their condolences and support in advance.

Oh my Goodness were do I begin,, I am one of his daughters Blanca Esther ,,I was one of his beloved children,, I had a great father who ,,was a great provider,, protecter,, a great worker,, he lavish his family with love,,, laughter,, kindness,,, and support,, He lived with me for a few years,,, we always we’re knitted with the same likes and values,, So we had a lot in common,, After he’s stroke on 11-18-2024,,,it was a challenging time ,,but we had his back.. Everyone came together and rallied around him for love &; support.. My dad took his last breath on Sunday ,,He died in a deep sleep ,,I know for sure he’s in Heaven ,,,that brings me comfort and Joy,,, but I will miss him always,, But I know he’s with me in my heart and in my family too,,, I love u dad ,,,until we meet in heaven,,,
