Alfonso Salinas was born December 28, 1940 in Laredo, Texas. He departed to Heaven peacefully at his home on March 30, 2025.

“Al” was born to Hilaria Salinas. Raised by a single mom with no other siblings, no one who met Al forgot his infectious humor and passion for helping others. He is survived by his 7 children, Guadalupe (Joseph ), Alfonso Salinas Jr (Vanna), Esther (Robert), Salvador (Priscilla), Alex, Danny and Sandra (William); Grandchildren, Emilio, Michael, Jason, Krystal, Alfonso III, Lisa, Louis, Angie, Sal Jr, Sylvia, Raquel, Desiree, Brandy, Billy, Dairy; in addition to his great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was known as “Pop” to his children. Retired twice, he worked at Inland Steel for 30 years in addition to the Lake County Department of Weights and Measures as an inspector for 25 more years. Al was a devoted father who loved to attend church, watch sports (Chicago Bears), politics and his family. He often called each one of his grandkids his “favorite”. He was known for his jokes, always spreading love to others and often saying, “I leave you in peace, I hope to find you in peace”. He often participated in politics, having last served as precinct committee man for Merrillville and various Lake County Election Board committees. Rest in heaven, until we meet again for there is no goodbye when you know Jesus.
