2025

Celine “Sally” Ann (Gesiakowski) Rackouski, 74, of Merrillville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at her home surrounded by loving family. She was born on May 7, 1950, in Chicago, IL, to the late Louis Sr. and Anne (Piwowarski) Gesiakowski.

Sally is survived by her loving children, Carri Gesiakowski, and William (Cindy) Rackouski; three wonderful grandchildren, Scott (Alice) Gesiakowski, Caitlin (Shawon) Chowdhury, and Nate Rackouski; sisters, Jeanne Robbins, and Sue Jerrick; and a loving host of extended family, friends, and acquaintances.

In addition to her parents, Sally was preceded in death by her husband, John Rackouski; brothers, Jim Jr., Robert, Louis, George, Ray, and Ted; and sisters, Ann “Nancy”, Barbara, and Joan.

Sally was a devout Catholic, holding a sense of strong faith and love in her Savior. She was known to read scriptures and pray to the Holy Rosary often throughout her life, as it brought her much comfort.

Sally enjoyed staying home, often reading her beloved Harry Potter books, singing and dancing along to classic rock and roll tunes, and playing board games such as Scrabble. Most importantly, she enjoyed telling stories, many days expressing that it was her mission in life to make others laugh which she excelled in.

Family was of the utmost importance to Sally, especially when it came to her grandchildren. She adored being able to spend time with each one and being able to support them in extracurricular activities, such as her grandsons playing in the school band.

Sally will best be remembered as a loving, witty, strong-willed, and faithful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She, along with all the love and joy she shared, will be dearly missed by those whose hearts she touched throughout her life.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 2 PM for Sally and her sister, Barbara at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft St, Merrillville, IN 46410. Visitation will be held from 11 AM until service time. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Calumet Park Cemetery, where the two sisters will be laid to rest with one another.

I will never forget the stories she would tell me at work about her family. Funny stories. About her mother and the storm windows. In the car with her kids when they were little and contacting life from another planet (it was an airplane). And many MANY more. She will be missed, and was terribly loved. Thank you Sally for being my friend, coworker, and supporter. Thank you for introducing me to your daughter and her family. Thank you for being a friend. Dance it up Sugar Plum! I’ll play your favorite song and think of you often.
