Donald J Drasich (5/29/1951 – 8/2/2024) Age 73 of Merrillville, IN.
Don was known for his immense musical talent. He could pick up any instrument, figure out how to play it, and play it well. He recorded numerous albums, while often playing all the parts, singing, and mixing them himself. His grandchildren most fondly remember him for all the times they went fishing together, when he taught them to play musical instruments, and the “removing” his thumb trick.
Don worked many years as a realtor, mortgage loan officer, and appraiser. He also had a passion for photography, always capturing the most beautiful landscape and candid photos. His favorite photos hung all around his house. Last, but not least, Don loved nature. He hand- planted and maintained 100s of trees on his property and had a vegetable and herb garden every year. He often spoke of the wildlife that visited his yard: deer, rabbits, coyotes, turkeys, and most recently, two owls that he would hear hooting at night. Don will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph and Frieda (Bando) Drasich. He is survived by his three children: John (Joell) Drasich, Shannon (Steve) Kelley, and Tiffany (Brandon) Halsey; ex-wife and lifelong friend: Linda Drasich; grandchildren: Kylie and Bella Kelley, Summer and Ian Drasich, Logan, Jackson, and Owen Halsey; siblings: Donna Drasich, Janice (John) Rhynearson, Joyce Drasich, and David (Lora) Drasich; nieces: Joyce (Joseph) Smulders and Ashley (Sam) Aprahamian; great nieces: Lily Ann and Abigail Aprahamian.
Don’s family will be holding a private service with family and close friends.
