Drago “Danny” Spremo, 82, of Michigan City, Indiana and formerly the southeast side of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on November 22, 2024.
Born in Botun, Yugoslavia, September 15, 1942, to the late Ilija “Ile” and Cvita Spremo, he enjoyed all that the region had to offer to him. He was a proud US Navy veteran, serving in ’62 and ’63 and continuing in the Reserves.
He was an extremely skilled carpenter, which was his passion, and kept himself busy tending to his farm and caring for his animals. He greatly enjoyed gathering with friends at cookouts, going to auctions, and working on various projects around his home and farm.
He is survived by his only son, Danny, whom he loved with all of his heart; his stepchildren: Rose Clemons, Pete Shaffer, Joseph (Lori) Shaffer, and Eva Shaffer and their families; siblings: Tom (Dana) Spremo, Olga (Mimo) Micic, and Luba (David) Stoker; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ilija and Cvita, and stepmother Gertha Spremo.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 4, 2024, from 10 AM until time of service at Noon at Calumet Park Hobart/Portage Chapel (370 N. County Line Road, Hobart). V. Rev. Marko Matic officiating. Burial to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. For information, call 219-940-3791.
