REMEMBERING

Florene Jones

2025

Florene M. Jones, 90, of Elkhart, IN (previously of Crown Point, IN) returned home to her Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 20, 2025.

She was born to Frank and Jennie Martorella (nee Marne) In Mt. Pleasant, PA, before relocating to NWI. In 1957, she married the love of her life, Edward, and had 2 beautiful children to complete her family.

While living in the region, Flo, as she was lovingly known to many, became a member of the Italian Lodge, enjoyed time working at J.C. Penny in the fine jewelry department, traveled internationally often, and was heavily involved at her parish, St. Joan of Arc in Merrillville before its closing.

If asked what her greatest joy and treasure in her life was, she would have said it was her incredible family, especially her darling grandbabies and great grandbabies, whom she was so proud of.
Flo is preceded in death by her dear parents, Frank and Jennie; her beloved husband, Edward; and sister, Rosemary Shimley.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving son, Ed (Nancy) Jones, and their children: Matthew (Casandra) Jones, Alyssa (Aaron) Saltsman, and Kalie (Josh) Herman; her devoted daughter, Deana (Guy) Vafiadis, and their children: Kyle (Courtney) Vafiadis, and Lauren (Brian) Pucher; her precious great-grandchildren: Alexis, Adelyne, Carter, Remi, Lorenzo, and Viviana; and many extended family and friends.

A gathering for Flo will be from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 27, 2025, with rosary and chapel service to begin at 2:00 PM. All services at Rendina Funeral Home (5100 Taft Street, Gary, IN). Private interment at Calumet Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Florene’s name to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) – now named Breakthrough T1D at https://www2.breakthrought1d.org/.

I was privileged to get to know Flo at Hellenic Senior Living for the almost 5 years that she was there. I taught a weekly Bible study that she never missed and we had a Sunday non-denominational church service which she always attended. She was everyone’s friend and everyone loved her in return. We had a tribute to her on the 23rd as part of our service and we ended with the song she always requested – Let There Be Peace on Earth. She loved her family so very much and she loved her Savior, Jesus Christ!
