James C. Doty, age 89, passed away surrounded by family on March 13, 2024. Survived by devoted partner of 40 years Mary Jo Comerford. Loving father of Lisa Doty, Laura Doty, and Charles (Laurie) Doty. Cherished grandfather of Cody Garzotto, Taylor Monroe, Brandon, Nichole, and Cristina Doty. Preceded in death by parents Earl and Gladys Doty and brother Robert Doty. James is survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.

James was born on February 2, 1935, in Benton County, IL. James graduated from Calumet High School in 1953 where he spent his adolescent years playing basketball and was proudly awarded Most Valuable Player. James served his country in both the U.S. Army and National Guard, where he spent the majority of his service stationed in Germany. James retired from U.S. Steel Gary Works with a remarkable 47 years of service which he thoroughly enjoyed.

James was a positive figure in the lives of all he touched. He always had a joke to share, a smile to give, and brought laughter everywhere he went. James was a dedicated family man and always showed up to support his children and grandchildren. Never missing birthdays, holidays, or special occasions, his loss is felt deeply and he will be missed by friends, family, and all those fortunate enough to have met him.

A visitation for James will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Funeral services  will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. All services will be held at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel 7535 W. Taft St. Merrillville, IN. Interment services will be held at Calumet Park Cemetery after services.
