James D. Ihnat, 81, of Deerfield Beach, Florida, passed away Friday, August 2, 2024. Born in Gary, Indiana to the late Stephen and Lena Ihnat, James was a graduate of Emerson High School, class of 1960. After graduation, he went on to study at Purdue University, earning his associate’s degree before finding employment at Inland Steel. After many dedicated years with the mill, he retired as an instrumentation supervisor and then found that the sunny skies of Florida were calling to him.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Julie Ihnat (nee Nemtuda) who passed away in September of 2010.
He leaves behind his loving son, Christopher (Nicole) Ihnat; his cherished grandchildren, Madison and Drew Ihnat; and his dear sister, Phyllis Ihnat.
Chapel services will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 10:00 AM with a short visitation prior to service starting at 9:30 AM at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel (7535 Taft Street, Merrillville, Indiana). Interment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery. For information, call 219-736-5840.
