Janet Lynn Peña, 59,  of Lake Station, IN, passed away on August 29,2023 peacefully at her home. She was born on October 6, 1963 in Harvey, IL to Charles and Helen Oliver. Janet graduated from high school and went on to trade school. She became a healthcare professional and also worked as a waitress and school bus attendant. She stopped working to take care of home. Janet started to become involved with the Merrillville schools, where her children attended. She later moved to Gary and became a mother-like figure for the many children within the community and became known as “Momma Peña.” Janet liked to garden and became a lover of birds. She also loved to lounge with her fur babies and dine out with her family. She was an avid collector of Hot Wheels, glassware, and loved clowns. She was a vibrant, caring, and memorable person. She will be truly missed by all who loved her.

She was preceded in death by parents: Charles & Helen Oliver and son: Felipe Peña Jr.

She is survived by sons: Joshua Peña and Vincent Peña, grand child: Gelsey Panega, nephew: John Oliver, sister: Pamela Abrahamson and her fur babies: Kamilla Rose, Zeke, and Kali. 

Visitation services will be held on Tuesday September 5, 2023 from 2:00pm-4:00pm with a funeral service at 3:15pm. All services will be held at Rendina Funeral Home, 5100 Cleveland St. Gary, IN 46408.
