Joan Ilean Ritter, age 87, of Valparaiso, Indiana, passed away on November 4, 2024. She was born May 12, 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of Frances Ilean (nee Daley) and George Philip Mech, sister of Doris (Bryce) Workman, George Peter (Ann) Mech, Philip Alvin Mech and John Richard (Chris) Mech.

Joan is survived by her husband, John Wesley Ritter, Jr.; three children: Eugene Wesley Ritter, Mark Edwin (Jennifer) Ritter, and Laura Joan Ritter; three grandchildren: Anthony Mark Ritter, Austin Lewis Ritter and Ashley Rae (Rickie) Lehman; six great grandchildren: Paisley Rae Lehman, Delaney Rae Lehman, Grady Jade Lehman, Clive Austin Ritter, Cohen Mark Ritter and Asaleigha Ember Leigh Ritter.

Joan was a homemaker and retired from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana, after 32 years of service, 24 years of which she served as Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Administration and Finance.

There will be a graveside service for family with Pastor Andy Wenthold officiating. Burial is at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, Indiana.
