Kenneth Marvin McAlister, a beloved father, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Gary, Indiana, on February 21, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on June 2, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois, Kenneth was the son of Dorothy and Thomas McAlister.
Kenneth grew up in a close-knit family alongside his sister Nancy Pate and brother Thomas McAlister. Kenneth was well-loved by his extended family and friends for his warmth and thoughtfulness.
Kenneth was a devoted and caring father to his son, Brandon McAlister of Chicago, and a cherished uncle to his nieces Lisa and Lori and nephews Brian, Tim and Tony. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister, and his nephew Tim. Despite these losses, Kenneth carried their memories with love.
Kenneth had a zest for life and was an avid traveler who especially enjoyed exploring Disneyland and Disney World. The fireworks at Epcot Center were among his favorite experiences. A talented craftsman with a creative spirit, Kenneth loved collecting toy trains and designing decorative Christmas lighting and ornaments that brought joy to many during the holiday season.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Kenneth cheered for the Boston Bruins, Chicago Bulls, and Chicago Blackhawks. His love for basketball and hockey was matched only by his enthusiasm for science fiction as an avid fan of Star Wars and Star Trek, and enjoyed the music of Mannheim Steamroller.
Kenneth’s career spanned many years at notable organizations such as Worthington Steel, Appleton Electric, Direct Buy, and The Boys and Girls Club. He was well-loved by his coworkers and friends for his kindness, thoughtfulness, and unwavering dedication.
In his younger years, Kenneth was active in his church community and throughout his life, he remained a caring and considerate man who always had a project underway around the house. His big smile and warm embrace were hallmarks of his personality that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Kenneth leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will be carried on through his family and friends.
Rest in peace, Kenneth—you will forever remain in our hearts.
