Madelyn Jean McPherson (nee Schaefer), 101, of Crown Point/Whiting, passed away on March 6, 2025.
Mady leaves behind to cherish her memories, nieces: Susan (Tony) Gunia of Englewood, FL, Nancy (late Larry) Schlesser of Nocatee, FL, Barbara (Rick) Young of Winnetka, IL, and Annie (late Steven) Leland of Tucson, AZ; nephews: Bruce (Cressie) Brown of Jacksonville, FL, and Drs. Michael (Cindy) Leland of Valparaiso, IN.
She is preceded in death in 1999 by her husband of 40 years, Glen “Mac” McPherson; her son, J. Scott McPherson; parents, Michael and Sophia Schaefer; and sisters, Virginia Leland and Dorothy Brown.
Mady grew up in Whiting, IN, the third daughter of Michael and Sophia. She was a 1942 graduate of Hammond Clark High School and attended Indiana University. She moved to Gary, IN, and worked in advertising for the Post Tribune and later worked for Hammond Public Schools as a paraprofessional. She married Glen E. McPherson and together they raised their son, J. Scott. She attended the First Christian Church of Crown Point and always looked forward to Sunday service. Madelyn was a devoted wife and mother, loved animals, and cared greatly for people. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
At Madelyn’s request, no services will be held as she wished to fade from this earth pleasantly, without ritual and without cause for hardship to any surviving family and friends.
“For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not parish, but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16

Aunt Mady was such a bright light in my life and anyone who was fortunate enough to have known her! She was always smiling and always ready to cheer you up or make you laugh. She loved sending Birthday, Christmas, and Get Well cards to all her friends and family. She was very independent and smart. Loved her many dogs through the years. She treasured her husband and son so much. She also loved her many Great Nieces and Nephews! I am so happy that I got to spend a lot of time with her through the years. Aunt Mady, I will miss you so much and treasure all our memories. I’m glad you are with Uncle Mac and Scott and all your other friends and family. Thank you for being such a special Aunt and friend! Love you always, Sue
